Why Teach ?

Since I was very young, I've always wanted to be a teacher. I did not have very many pleasant experiences with my teachers growing up, and still, find myself having a few bad ones in college. Perhaps it is fair to say that they are the ones to push me to be a better teacher for the students of the future. My Nana was a classroom aid at a special needs school (SEN) for a decade and my late Grandfather was a vocational adjustment coordinator (he helped disabled and special needs students at his school find careers that were best suited for them) who started as a special education teacher. I am a student with a few learning disabilities that have made it rather challenging to get through my academic career due to not only parents who are unaccepting or understanding, and teachers who did not care to help me.

I want to be a teacher because I want to be someone who will be there to help her students in any way that I can. Regardless of a student's age, it is very reassuring to know that there is at least one teacher out there who cares about you and is willing to help you Though I have alexia and dyslexia together, one of my favorite subjects has always been language arts. Though I plan to teach at the elementary level for a few years and will probably be a catch-all teacher, my passion is for language arts. I plan on furthering my academic career and getting my Master's someday to teach at a higher level.

  1. Hi Maddie,
It is good to see you! As an educator I strive to push my students to be better students and, therefore, better teachers. That is something I take pride in. It doesn't always make me popular with students, though.
