How are schools integrated?

That's the thing. Schools are integrated. There are no schools that don't allow all children of different races, genders, religions, etc to attend (minus perhaps girls only, boys only schools I suppose). No public school will turn you away because you are of a different race, or have different colored skin. (Though, of course, some colleges may turn you away because of test scores, not enough money to pay, etc. But I assume we just mean below that level, K-12 only..) Anyone who says otherwise is just silly, to put it lightly. No matter what there are always bad people out there. Bad doctors, bad cops, and yes, bad teachers. But just because a teacher is treating their students poorly does not mean the school is not integrated. I think we focus incredibly too hard on race these days. And as a white person, this just makes me sound like a POS to most, surely. But it is the truth. Children of all races, genders, sexualities, etc can be treated badly by one awful teacher. That's just how the world works. I am not justifying those people in any way. True racists, sexists, homophobes, etc should be terminated from their jobs if they attack someone. You are 100% entitled to your own beliefs, (yes, even if they are morally wrong) but you should just keep it to yourself. To put it simply, yes, schools are, in fact, integrated for students. Unfortunately, though, people are becoming more and more hateful. People want schools now where only one race can attend. A school for LGBT only people, and many more. I think it is disgusting and sad how the world is just reverting back to what it was.. Some day, maybe very soon, I will be saying no to this question, and it breaks my heart.

  1. Hi Madeline, I think youre right, I feel like the issues we are being presented with today are far different and more complicated than before. I am mixed and personally have had no issues with my schools or teachers growing up. I always had diverse teachers who loved me and a mixed group of friends. Racism, thankfully for me has never been a real problem. Although yes, schools are where certain ideas or perspectives are introduced but i dont think that schools as a whole are the problem.
